I made this A5 notebook long ago and left it blank..to one day come back and paint on the cover maybe?! Yes. I used watercolour directly on the cardboard, only white and green. The structure of the pattern is similar to this one. And, yes, this is another present. Do you like it? Have a great week! Sere
Yes, another present! – Two birthdays last week. I didn’t know how to customize this one, then I thought about my friend and his clothes: stripe tshirts. Have you noticed it? The cut out has the shape of a tshirt ,and underneath, on the creamy paper, there are some drawings I made using my famous while-speaking-on-the-phone style :). I’m sure everyone has his/her own personal while-speaking-on-the-phone style ! Serena
This is the notebook I customized for my friend Diego, it was his birthday! – Everything is handmade, from the bookbinding to the illustration. Well, who wouldn’t like a present like this for his birthday…uh?! Hope you like it! – he liked it, well, at least he said so 🙂 Serena
So I did it! I took the watercolours I liked the most, and print it on a tote and on cardboard to make notebooks 🙂 (Actually,I made another tote, but I already sold it and wasn’t clever enough to take a picture of it before…uff!) Anyway, this is the first experiment, I really like the idea of printing on fabrics! In this tote I only took one line of decoration..in the other one I printed the whole watercolour decoration on […]
Among the notebooks I made during the past 6 months I chose the one that was most pinned, or mentioned…the one that received the highest score. So I’ve made almost 30 different kinds, all A6 and with different colours. I’ve also produced 4 little A7 notebooks and 4 bookmarks, as prototypes for the moment. The colours used for the carboards are: Pink, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Black. The colours used for the pages are: Green, Orange, Yellow, Beige, Lavender. […]
A client from Italy emailed me with specifics about a notebook she wanted to have ready for her mother’s birthday in June. Her mother likes to bake cakes and cookies, so the illustrations should have been about sweets. She chose the papers for the covers and I took some pics here to study the possible results. I had some hard time deciding the subject for the pop-up and finally ended up with a cake. Yesterday she emailed me telling […]
So, a client asked me a journal with pockets, A5 size, starting from this one, with some pages to use as photo album. About the cover: he chose the paper among the classic ones I always have ( Grafiche Tassotti). I used a blue fabric for the spine and part of the covers as I did in a recent photoalbum/journal. He wanted to add somewhere in the journal 4 poems he actually personalized for his girlfriend. (So romantic!). I decided to […]
This A6 size notebook could be an evolution of the previous one I made. COLOR: It’s just like that: the combination of lavander & pink made me add a yellow touch. Why? I don’t know (well, yes, I know…I’ve a lot of yellow paper around here;)) SHAPE: Now, why did I choose to cut out the pieces…? That’s because lately I’ve been thinking about how to put all the 3d paper sculptures shapes (like the ones Jen Stark does) on a bidimensional […]
I made this notebook following my great passion for cut edges on the cover. I started with the flowers (as you can see in the previous post) and shifted here to geometric shapes. I was looking for a new perspective of the interaction between simple, plain colors and lines. I tried to take advantage of the double cover to give an ultimate effect. Why am I using pink right now? The answer is really simple: because I have a lot […]
This notebook has the same decoration as the green one I made some month ago. I’ve always wanted to start a series using this kind of cover, so this is the first variation. The difference here is that I added a brown cardboard flyleaf that repeats the same cut edges the cover has. The illustrations on the cover are handmade. Traditional binding system, blank recycled pages. I hope you’ll like it 😉 Ps..: If you’re interested, you can buy it […]
My client wanted a functional diary: half notebook, half photo-album, with pockets. When she saw the daisy paper she asked me to use it for the cover and for some boxes I’ll post tomorrow. COVER// Hard cover. The beautiful paper is from Grafiche Tassotti. The spine and the corners are protected by green fabric. PAGES +PHOTOALBUM//Half of the diary has light cream blank pages (72g) while the other half is a photo-album, with heavier paper (200g) + vegetal paper. As you […]
Here it is my latest work: a , based on this one. My client told me that her friend (the final recipient) was fond of nature, birds and bright colors. COVER// We agreed to use the same style of colorful papers I already used for other diaries on my blog. By the way..I buy them here in Madrid, in the Tiger shop. (Someone asked me if it was possible to buy them online, but I don’t think so..). The front […]
This A6 diary was made for a client as a birthday present for a friend. He chose among my agendas the one with the cut edges, but he wanted something more..like some surprise inside. So I used the same decoration on the cover for the illustrations that are inside, on the vegetal paper pages. There’s a vegetal paper with an illustration each 8 plain pages. The cover is simple red cardboard. The flyleaves are also cardboard (double sided color black/white). […]
A6 size for this diary/photoalbum, a present thought for a very classy lady. As you can see, I covered the cardboard with my beloved Grafiche Tassotti paper. In the main diary there are no illustrations, just plain pages. Inside the pocket on the left, there’s a little photo album with a poem from Antonio Machado, who was appointed to me as one of my client’s favorite poets. I used the same Tassotti paper to cover three little boxes that go […]
A6 size, dark and sexy diary made for a female client who, I’m told, loves exotic flavours. The black paper I used to cover the cardboard is handmade and comes from India, the little silver-colored spots are embossed on the surface. The first two and last two pages are fashioned as a photo album. Every 8 pages there’s a handmade illustration on vegetal paper. All the drawings feature different part of the same image. I did that illustration during my […]
This notebook (size A5) is sewed using the traditional cord system. Its “uniqueness” is simply in the handmade ink drawings I did on the cover. I was tempted to fill all the surface with flowers, but finally I decided to put them on the right, where I could cut the edges to give an ultimate effect. At least, three of my last works have green paper!! It’s my green period 😉 Hope you’ll like it.
I made this special notebook for a harpsichord teacher/musician friend, a present her boyfriend asked me to produce especially for her. The occasion was the late feast of the Epiphany. I would like to point out that here in Spain, the Epiphany feast is more known as “Reyes magos”, or simply “Reyes”, which is kind of a big deal and more important even than Christmas when it comes to presents. Well, what a digression…isn’t it?! Back to the present: I knew she […]
“Second Edition” of this prototype, now created for a specific client. In this occasion I changed the illustrations, which obviously are not about my trip in Asia, but about flowers. 15×10 cm, traditional cord binding system. I bought the paper in the Tiger shop here in Madrid.
Here we go with this lovely, weird yet unique hardcover photo album. It took me a lot to get all the materials and to decide how to do it. Well, in the end it’s very simple: you choose where to put the pictures. I used Tassotti paper for the hard cover and Canson violet paper (180mg) for the pages. Traditional cord book binding system.
First agenda of a series about hobbies and professions. The ink illustration and the title on the cover are handmade and handwritten. The binding is also handmade using the traditional chords binding system.
Here there is a project for another blocknote. I wanted to use this kind of decorated paper (Made in Italy by Grafiche Tassotti) I bought some week ago here in Madrid. I think that normally it’s used to make the flyleaves of the book but it was so beautiful…plus my mother is making lamp shades with the same kind of decorations, well, almost the same 😉 I’m going to make more blocknotes in different sizes with this kind of paper.
This is the first prototype for a little blocknote made using the japanese stab binding process. The first flyleaf is made of felt and is intended to protect the pages below and as you can see it follows their shape.
This is the first agenda I made. I sewed the signatures with cords and used a strong cardboard to make the hard cover. The agenda, which is a present for a friend’s birthday, is filled with drawings (1 drawing every 8 pages), has a pop-up at the end and has a pocket with 6 decorated papers notes.
